Celebrate With Cake for JDRF
Celebrate With Cake (in a jar) is an ongoing fundraiser. $4 from each $5 jar is donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. In addition to trying to dominate the baking world with my novelty cake items, I am going to be running 78 km over four days at Disney World to try and raise money for this amazing cause. Time for an update!
Well, this January I am headed back to Florida once more, this time for the Goofy Challenge at Walt Disney World. Not only will I be Goofy, but I'll also be "unofficially Dopey". What this means is, I'll be running a 5 km race on Thursday, a 10 km race on Friday, a half marathon on Saturday and a full marathon on Sunday. I'll be selling cakes again this year to try and raise money for JDRF. My brother was diagnosed at 14 with Type 1 Diabetes and JDRF has been an amazing help for him. When I found out about the Team JDRF program, I just had to get involved! JDRF is on the verge of some pretty major breakthroughs to actually CURE Type 1 diabetes. This is AMAZING news for people affected by this disease, and I'm extremely proud to be behind it! Stay tuned for more exciting info!

Well, one week tomorrow we will be on the road to our new adventure... officially that is. It feels like we've been packing and getting ready for this trip forever! Unfortunately, my running has completely fallen by the way-side, but I am going to try and sneak a few in before we leave, just to feel a bit better about my situation. I'll be running a fun event in Edmonton once we get out there with one of my fellow "princess runners", Sandra. It's a fundraising event for the Diabetes Association called the "Halloween Howl". The goal is to come in with a PR 10km time to submit for a better corral placement at Marathon Weekend in January.
Also, coming soon will be a fun announcement for my friends out in BC!

Well folks, it's been awhile since I posted anything, so I thought I better get something up here! Life has been absolutely wild lately with a move across the country in the works. Although I haven't been running nearly as often as I should be, especially training for a half marathon in 3 and a half months! Although I haven't been running, I sure have been physically busy. Moving out of the house, cleaning, painting, packing, working... the list just keeps going on and on. Fortunately, after October 1st, our new tenants will be enjoying our lovely home, and I'll be counting the days before the big move.

Back in about January of 2011, I decided I was crazy. I made the commitment to run my first half marathon. I had never run a race before. Not even a 5 km. I steered clear from the "track" part of track and field at school. I was told I couldn't run. It was then that I decided that I would prove everyone who ever doubted me wrong, and I would go out and run.
I finished the race. I was slow, but I ran most of it, and I finished. Anyone who ever doubted me has never finished a half marathon. They haven't even the courage to start.
I do feel a little bit crazy deciding to run my first full marathon in January, but I know that I have the strength to finish! It's also going to hopefully take me on a journey to a newer, healthier me. So, here's a photo of day one, and I'll keep you all posted on my journey!
